Do players wear the trackers during actual matches?

Professional rules allow approved electronic performance and tracking systems under specific safety and competition requirements.

Some teams use wearable systems in training, matches, or both.

In other situations, optical camera systems track players without requiring a wearable device.

Is the vest protective equipment?

Usually no.

The garment may look a little like a sports bra or small chest protector, but protection is not its main function.

Its shape comes from a practical requirement: hold a small sensor snugly against the upper body without interfering with movement.

Can the data tell whether someone played well?

Not by itself.

Performance data describes physical activity. Coaches still need tactics, skill, context, video, and observation to understand what the numbers mean.

So those odd-looking black vests are not a fashion statement and not secret armor.

They are wearable data collection.
